Bitcoin mining Windows 7 64 bit
BitCoin Mining with an ATI Radeon card in Windows 7 (32/64 bit)
After having trouble with installing the correct drivers in Ubuntu 10.10 64-Bit, I rebooted into Windows 7. The process is extremely easy on a Windows machine.
First you’ll want to install your ATI Radeon card, And when Windows tries to install drivers for you, cancel it. You want to install the Catalyst Software Suite, and install drivers that way (If you’re using 32 bit you’ll have to search for the correct version). The Catalyst Control Center application also lets you overclock the card as well.
Next, you will want to make sure your BitCoin client is installed. It does not need to be running while mining BitCoins. If you plan to use your BitCoin client as a server, ensure you have created your configuration file at C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\bitcoin.conf with the following:
rpcuser=[choose a username]
rpcpassword=[choose a password]
Then you’ll want to download a miner. I have been using poclbm-mod, on bitcoinpool.com. If you chose that, then you’ll need to sign-up for an account.
To make it easy, there is a batch file included in the poclbm-mod file, in the binaries-win32 directory. Don’t use the GUI version, it’s less efficient. Make sure that you edit it to include your username and password to connect.
Example for Radeon Card:
poclbm-mod.exe -d 0 -v -w 128 -f 60 -user=USERNAME –pass=PASSWORD
If you happen to get a vector error, try changing the device flag from -d 0 to -d 1
You can also adjust the -f flag, higher leads to better frame rates for the desktop, less increases performance a bit for mining.
Enjoy.
I also got my Radeon 5770 installed and mining in Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit last night, I’ll be doing a write-up of that tomorrow.
