The era of mining scrypt-based coins with graphics cards is coming to a close.

For a long time ASIC machines, long known to be the dreadnaughts of Bitcoin mining, have been unable to mine scrypt-based coins, including Litecoin and Dogecoin.

But that’s now changed. Chinese chip manufacturer Innosilicon is selling an ASIC machine designed to mine scrypt coins. Their A2 Terminator will outperform the strongest graphics card in the world by nearly double, while consuming nearly half the amount of power.

When ASIC machines first came to Bitcoin, graphics card miners switched to mining Litecoin since it was more economical. But now that ASICs are coming to Litecoin, GPU miners will have to either switch to another
