Thư gởi Đức Thánh Cha.

Kính lạy Đức Thánh Cha,

Chúng con là những người dân ở xứ Cồn Dầu, địa phận Đà Nẵng, dưới sự dẫn dắt của Đức Giám Mục Giuse Châu Ngọc Tri.

Chúng con là những nạn nhân đă trốn chạy trước sự truy đuổi của Chính Quyền Thành Phố Đà Nẵng. Hiện nay chúng con đang trốn tránh ở Thái Lan, xin tŕnh bày với Đức Thánh Cha về việc đàn áp tôn giáo - chính trị, xảy ra ở giáo xứ chúng con.

Giáo xứ Cồn Dầu đă có cách đây 135 năm, đất nầy do Giáo Hội mua và sau đó để lại cho ông bà chúng con. Giáo xứ Cồn Dầu có bề dày lịch sử và hoạt động tôn giáo cách mạnh mẽ. Chính v́ điều đó mà Chính Quyền đă mượn việc giải toả, để phá tan giáo xứ. Họ buộc chúng con phải dời xa ngôi Thánh Đường, không được đến tham dự và lấy đi khu Thánh Địa, nơi mà ông bà cha mẹ chúng con đang yên nghỉ.

Tất cả giáo dân không đồng ư trước việc làm vô lư của Chính Quyền. Ngôi Thánh Đường đă gắn bó biết bao nhiêu thế hệ, Hàng ngày chúng con đều đến Thánh Đường để đọc kinh cầu nguyện, tham dự Thánh Lễ. Nay dời xa, th́ những người già và trẻ em không đến được Nhà Thờ và Thánh Đường sẽ vắng bóng, không có một người dân. Giáo lư công giáo sẽ bị mai một cho lớp trẻ.

Kính lạy Đức Thánh Cha, khi xảy ra việc Chính Quyền cướp xác cụ bà Maria Đăng Thi Tân vào ngày 04.06.2010, giáo xứ chúng con trước đó không có ai làm Hội Đồng Giáo Xứ, v́ tất cả những ai thamm dự trong Hội Đồng Giáo Xứ đều bị công an mời vào đồn, khủng bố tinh thần và hăm doạ, nên mọi việc trong Giáo Xứ chỉ một ḿnh Linh Mục Emmanuel Nguyễn Tấn Lạc đảm nhận.
Theo thông lệ, tháng năm là " tháng hoa của Đức Mẹ", chúng con đến nhà để đọc kinh, nhưng Chính Quyền đă không cho vào và bảo cấm tựu tập. Chúng con đành phải vào Thánh Địa ( khu nghĩa trang ) mà đọc kinh. Họ đă cố t́nh làm khó, ép buộc đủ thứ, đến chỗ chúng con làm việc bảo các ông chủ đuổi việc.

Mặc dầu trước sự áp bức, chúng con vẫn quyết tâm không xa ngôi Thánh Đường, v́ là huyết mạch tâm hồn của chúng con.

Kính lạy Đức Thánh Cha, ngày đại họa đổ xuống giáo xứ chúng con, khi tất cả mọi người đi đưa tang cho cụ bà Maria Đăng Thi Tân, th́ trước mặt giáo dân là hàng trăm hàng ngh́n cảnh sát 113 và công an. Họ dùng rào chắn, kẻm gai, dùi cui, súng ống và roi điện...Họ đă lao thẳng vào người dân, đánh đập không thương tiếc, Những tiếc thét, tiếng khóc hải hùng của những người lớn và trẻ nhỏ, máu đă đổ vương văi nơi quan tài...

Sau khi cướp xác lên xe, họ đánh đập những người bị bắt và dẫn về đồn tra tấn. Những người dân chúng con chân lấm tay bùn thấy cảnh thương tâm xảy ra quá kinh khủng. Tượng Chúa Giêsu và Đức Mẹ là bảo bối tâm hồn chúng con, không ngờ họ cũng dập nát. Nước mắt và máu đă chan hoà lẫn lộn, một ngày tang thương xảy ra cho Giáo Xứ.

Kính lạy Đức Thánh Cha, sự việc xảy ra như vậy trong Giáo Xứ, nhưng Đức Cha Châu Ngọc Tri lại không lên tiếng bảo vệ chúng con . Ngài chỉ nói đây là dân sự, không liên quan ǵ đến tôn giáo và bảo chúng con nghe theo đường lối, chính sách của Chính Quyền, hăy nhẫn nhịn và cầu nguyện.
Thưa Đức Thánh Cha, máu của chúng con đă đổ ra, v́ không thể rời xa ngôi Thánh Đường, không để người già trước khi chết, không gần bên Chúa, không để lớp trẻ sau nầy xa dần giáo lư. Nền tảng giáo lư công giáo không thể để cho Chính Quyền Cộng Sản cha đạp được. Chính v́ ḷng yêu Chúa và mến Chúa mà những người dân c̣n ở quê hương vẫn âm thầm chịu đau khổ , những người ở trong tù vẫn bị tra tấn, đánh đập chưa được thả ra.

Phần chúng con, mặc dầu được trốn thoát, nhưng tinh thần sợ hăi, lo âu, nguy hiểm đang ŕnh rập. Chúng con chỉ nh́n thấy bốn bức tường. Mỗi ngày đọc kinh không dám lớn tiếng., v́ là người dân cư trú bất hợp pháp trên đất Thái Lan. Công an Thái Lan có thể bắt chúng con và nỗi lo sợ lớn nhứt là bị công an Việt Nam bắt.

Kính lạy Đức Thánh Cha, từ ngày chạy trốn, chúng con rất khao khát được gần bên Chúa, được nghe lời giảng, được rước Ḿnh và Máu Thánh Chúa, dù chỉ một lần.

Thiên Chúa đă không bỏ chúng con . Từ nơi xa xôi, Chúa đă mạc khải cho Linh Mục Nguyễn Văn Hùng ở Đài Loan đến và dâng Thánh Lễ. Nhờ Linh Mục mà anh em chúng con vơi bớt đi được nỗi lo âu và sợ hăi. Chúng con biết ơn Linh Mục Nguyễn Văn Hùng rất nhiều, phải chi Giáo Hội Công Giáo mà có được nhiều vị Linh Mục như vậy.

Kính lạy Đức Thánh Cha, tâm nguyện của chúng con, xin Đức Thánh Cha ra tay giúp đỡ,

- giúp cho nước Việt Nam không c̣n sự đàn áp tôn giáo,

- giúp cho xứ Cồn Dầu không không bị phá nát bởi bàn tay tàn bạo của Cộng Sản ,
- hăy giữ lại quê hương chúng con,

- giúp cho những người trong Giáo Xứ đang bị tù đày đánh đập, để họ được đoàn tụ với gia đ́nh.

Chúng con cũng cầu xin Đức Thánh Cha giúp cho chúng con được tỵ nạn ở một nước thứ ba, v́ chúng con không có thể quay về.

Trước khi dừng bút, chúng con cầu xin Chúa đổ tràn hồng ân cho Đức Thánh Cha, để lèo lái Giáo Hội Công Giáo một cách vững chắc.

URGENT PETITION TO THE HOLY SEE BENEDICT XVI

 

Bangkok, September 27th, 2010

 

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI,

We, the humbly undersigned, parishioners of Cồn Dầu parish, diocese of  Đà Nẵng, Vietnam, under Bishop Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri’s leadership. Currently, we are the oppressed victims who had refuged from Cồn Dầu and have been temporarily residing in Bangkok, Thailand to stay away from religious and political persecutions by the local authorities of  Đà Nẵng province in Vietnam.     

Parish of Cồn Dầu has been founded for 135 years. Our parish’s land had been purchased by the Roman Catholic Church of Vietnam and thereafter its ownership has been transferred to our great grandparents. The parish has been enshrined with its long and enriched history. Its parishioners have been deeply and actively involved in religious activities. That was why the local authorities had claimed it for land nationalization/ confiscation but they simply wanted to destroy our parish. They have forced us to leave the church and have not permitted us to attend Masses.  They have also confiscated the holy land area (Cemetery) where our deceased grandparents and parents had been laid to rest peacefully in God’s loving hands.        

All of our parishioners have strongly disagreed with the local authorities’ unjust, unfair, illegal and unconstitutional acts. Our church has strongly bound many of our generations. Everyday, we come the church to pray to God while celebrating Mass. Now, if we are forced to leave our home parish the elderly and the children will not be able to come to the church which eventually will become vacant without a single attending parishioner. The Catholic Bible teachings will be eradicated completely from our children by the government.

Before the major incident that the local authorities misused police force to rob our deceased Maria Đặng Thi. Tân’s corpse on June 4th, 2010, our parish did not have the pastoral council because any parishioner who had joined in the pastoral council would have been immediately “invited” to the local police station to “work” with the interrogators (usually in groups of police who use electric rods, high wattage lamps to aim at victims’ eyes and other tools for physical tortures during interrogations, etc) to be threatened and mentally terrorized. Therefore, all parish’s tasks have been carried out by priest Emmanuel Nguyễn Tâ’n Lạc.   

As a routine custom, May is Virgin Mary’s Month of Flowers”, we took turn and came to our neighbor’s homes to pray the rosary but the local authorities did not allow us to enter our neighbors’ homes. We were also not allowed to meet in groups. Therefore, we had to enter the Holy Area (Cemetery) to pray the rosarỵ  The authorities have created so much hassles and difficulties to us. They forced us to abide by so many unreasonable requirements and also ordered our employers to fire us from employments. 

Even though we had suffered painful suppressions of different types, we would have strongly determined to bond tightly to our small church because the church is mainly and simply our blood, veins and souls which have been completely dedicated to Jesus Christ and Virgin Marỵ

The worst disaster which was bombarded down to our poor parishioners’ heads was the day while we all were being joined Maria Đặng Thi. Tân’s funeral, then suđenly hundreds or may be thousands of armed uniformed and plain-clothed police appeared and fiercely attacked us. They used fences with razor wires, police batons, rifles and electric rods, etc. to overwhelm us. They jumped right over on top of our parishioners’ heads to beat, kick and used rifle-butts to forcefully crush our heads and bodies without mercy. People and kids cried out loud and shouted sharply and painfully all over the area. Parishioners’ blood spattered everywhere, also on and around  Mrs. Đặng’s coffin…     

After seizing the dead body, they beat mercilessly the people who were in capture and took them immediately to their police station to torture. We, the poor parishioners, who make simple living by our most honest labor, were over-shocked and dreadful to death while witnessing the police’s cruelest suppression. Our respected statutes of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary, our most spiritually protective symbols of our unfortunate souls, were also completely smashed to small pieces. Tears and blood were mixed up and literally was flowing along the streams. That was the most painful day of our small frugal parish.

The armed police attack happened to our parishioners. However, our Bishop Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri, for some unknown reasons, has never made any statement to comfort or protect us.  Among the victims, many were purely children. He said “this is a civil matter and is not related to the Church”. He told us to “listen to the government’s policies and procedures” and advised us “to endure all indignities and praying much more”.

Our blood has been shed in severely religious persecutions because we cannot leave our small local church and also our glorified Catholic Church. We cannot afford letting our dying elderly living far away from God and cannot feel comfortable letting our children be forced to keep distances from our Catholic Holy Bible. The foundations of Catholic Bible cannot be brutally oppressed by the Communist authorities. It is our profound love to God so our parishioners who are still residing in our parish of Cồn Dầu are silently suffering their pain. To date, a number of other parishioners are still in police custody and are being tortured without release.

Even though having successfully escaped from the most brutal religious persecutions, we are still in deep fear and profound sorrow because dangers are still hanging around us. We have been currently residing in an undisclosed place with absolutely no outside contacts. We only see the 4 walls around us in a small room. Everyday, we pray the rosary together quietly because we are illegal immigrants in Thailand. Thailand police may arrest us any time and our great fear is to be captured or under extradition request by Vietnam authorities.

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI,

Since our escape, we earnestly wish to be near our Almighty God, Jesus Christ, to listen to a priest’s preaching, to receive communion (God’s body and blood), even only one time. Luckily, God has never left us. From a place, very far away, God had enlightened Father Nguyễn Văn Hùng from Taiwan and he came to our place in Bangkok, Thailand to visit us and celebrate Mass with us. Due to his great spiritual support, our worry and fear have been significantly subsided. We owe a great deal to Father Nguyễn Văn Hùng. He is literally our saint of the decadẹ  We wish our Catholic Church could have many priests like Father Hùng.

Please kindly and generously accept our following heartfelt prayers in which we earnestly wish that you would kindly help:

- Our motherland Vietnam to be freed soon from cruel religious persecutions.

- Our parish of Cồn Dầu not to be confiscated and destroyed by the Communist authorities.

- Keep our motherland Vietnam free from any kind of invasion and/ or modern colonialism.

- Our parishioners who are currently in police or legal court custody not to be tortured and be soon released to unify with their beloved families. 

We also pray to you, our Most Holy Father, to help us soon be resettled as (religious and/ or political) refugees in a third country because we cannot return to Vietnam.

Before we conclude our Petition, we wholeheartedly pray to our God, Jesus Christ, the Almighty, to pour down generously all of his LOVE and BLESSINGS upon you so you will be able to take full charge of your historic and noble missions to lead our Roman Catholic Church to enter its firm and contributing steps into the serving the world in the twenty first century. Amen !
